Questions & Answers for DEWALT Heavy-Duty 12" (305mm) Double-Bevel Compound Miter Saw

Question
Dw 716
Why does my DW716 not cut a 1+8 oak board properly? The cut is square, but it is cupped, or rounded in the centreof the cut. I am not using a thin kerf blade.I tried a bosch saw, and it did the same thing.Do all 12 inch mitersaws do this?

A common cause of this problem is that the wood itself is cupped, the curve you see is a line following the curvature of the piece.

Be sure to adjust the saw as described in the manual (found here: http://www.dewaltservicenet.com/documents/English/Instruction%20Manual/628949-00,DW716.pdf

Question
Backfence Description
The DW716 says at 45 degrees it can cut a 2x8, or a 2x10 with backfence.
Regarding the backfence?
1) Does the regular fence move back? If so descibe the process. i.e. How hard is thisi to change?
2) Is this a separate fence? If so does it cost extra?

You can remove the adjustable, Sliding Fence by backing off the retension screws and sliding each side of the Fence off of the Base. This will enable you to use the Base's Back Fence for larger stock. To crosscut a 2 x 8, you can add an Auxiliary Base to elevate the stock -- so that it's level with the Back Fence. You won't need to purchase an additional base, as you can use a Sacrificial Base. That is, a piece of scrap lumber that elevates your 2 x 8 or 2 x 10 to a height that will position the larger stock for the 45 degree cut (2 x 8) or 90 degree cut. (2 x 10)
You may want to view the video in the Product Virtual Tour, as it displays the DW716 Miter Saw using a Sacrifical Base that is set-up to cut a 2 x 10. The image (Copyright DeWALT) displays a frame from this portion of the video.
